The only thing that is consistent is the "flame" symbol. It's always there after a post gets a certain number of comments.

I take it to mean that the posts with a flame are 'hot' or very active meant to tell other 'hey there are a lot of active posts here pay attention' honestly I see no pattern with the male/female icons
